Monday's session looked constructive on the surface — SPY closed up +0.47% — but the tape tells a more complicated story. A $344M-plus cluster of bearish 0DTE SPX put sweeps fired at 09:02 ET across five strikes, and by the close price had drifted back below every one of them. The day's high never lasted.
The real story was tech carrying water for a market that couldn't sustain breadth. QQQ led with +1.24% but NYSE advancers were crushed 950-to-1752, TRIN printed 1.15, and SPY, SPX, and IWM all closed below their VWAPs heading into Tuesday. With negative net GEX across all four major indexes and price below max pain on SPY, SPX, QQQ, and IWM simultaneously, the next session deserves caution.
GEX walls are price levels where dealers hedge aggressively. Price tends to gravitate toward Max Pain and stall near walls.
